Key partner and investor of Jönköping International Business School (JIBS)

The Hamrin Foundation is a key partner and investor of Jönköping International Business School (JIBS). The school conducts cutting-edge research on entrepreneurship and family businesses (CeFEO).

Vertikals and MMTC (the Media, Management and Transformation Centre) are two of our other investments at JIBS. Both have helped make JIBS one of the world’s top 100 management schools.

Exceptional partnership

Jönköping University is the Hamrin Foundation’s largest individual beneficiary, having received just over EUR 19 million. Jönköping International Business School in particular has benefited from the Foundation’s support: we have been strategically investing in JIBS since 1986. Today, JIBS is a leading business school.

CENTER FOR FAMILY ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND OWNERSHIP (CEFEO)

What is CeFeo?
CeFEO — the Centre for Family Entrepreneurship and Ownership — is a research centre at Jönköping International Business School in Sweden. It is the first centre of its kind in the Nordics and a reference point in Europe for family business and ownership research, education and outreach. CeFEO is ranked no.1 in its field in Europe and no.2 globally. It produces academic and commissioned research, practitioner-oriented books, and seminars and training courses for practitioners across Sweden.

The contribution of the Hamrin Foundation
CeFEO is of particular interest to the Foundation, as family-owned businesses play such a key role in both the Nordics and around the world. As early as 1996, the Foundation awarded a grant to help set up a research programme on the dynamics of family firms. This first donation later led to the founding of the Centre for Family Enterprise and Ownership.
Many rising stars and talented, interdisciplinary young researchers have joined CeFEO over the years, drawn to the centre’s personal engagement and sustainable (+20 years), relatively unrestricted funding.

VERTIKALS

What is Vertikals?
Initiated in early 2012 by Johan Roos, Dean of Jönköping International Business School, the Vertikals forum links theory to practice and introduces research to the general public. As such, it actively shapes society’s shared future. Vertikals also serves as a strategic brand platform for Jönköping University as a whole.

From day one, Vertikals went against the grain. The project started almost like a research experiment, under the auspices of the Dean and with plenty of spacy for creativity. It united academics and outsiders: together, they reached out to the public in innovative and entertaining ways, including through “feel-good” research and conferences.

The contribution of the Hamrin Foundation
We boldly committed almost EUR 1.7 million to launch Vertikals. During the project’s first decade, we regularly met with the team behind it and with Dean Roos, to follow up on Vertikals’ progress and help direct its growth. The platform was regularly mentioned in national media, at local events and in Spotify podcasts. It featured perspectives from multiple disciplines at Jönköping University, not just JIBS. These days, the Hamrin Foundation regularly participates in Vertikals’ steering commitee.
